Channel letters or a cabinet sign? A practical comparison
2026-05-30 · 7 min read

Two very different price points, two very different impressions. How to decide without regret.
Cabinet signs are a single illuminated box with a printed or routed face. Channel letters are individually fabricated letterforms. The cost gap is real, and so is the perception gap.
Cabinets win on budget, on complex logos with fine detail, and on situations where the face may need replacing as branding evolves.
Channel letters win on perceived quality. Individual letterforms with proper returns read as architecture rather than advertising, and halo illumination is only possible with them.
A common middle path: channel letters for the name, a small cabinet or panel for the tagline or secondary information.
